Meet the Farmers

Sam Werlein
Thanks for visiting our website! A little history on me: I grew up on a farm in Mondovi, Wisconsin with seven siblings. Here, I learned the ins-and-outs of practical farming.
I studied Soil Science at UW-Stevens Point. Throughout college I worked on several farms in the area and even rented land to grow hay.
After graduating college in 2012, I moved to Viroqua, Wisconsin and started work as a Soil and Plant Health Consultant for a company. During my time in Viroqua I took on my first real produce endeavor. I managed half an acre of melons selling them at the local Farmer's Market. After this experience I knew I wanted to scale up.
My dad and I worked out an arrangement for me to manage seven acres of land on the family farm. My girlfriend and I left Viroqua and moved back to the Eau Claire region.
As of lately I have been busy harvesting our grape tomatoes, basil and green peppers.

I am the co-manager of Gone Wild Acres. I like going out to the farm to help Sam with odd jobs. My favorite chores are pruning, feeding the chickens, and of course- harvesting! At the end of the day, I love to cook a good meal, usually including vegetables from the field.
There's a lot of satisfaction with that!
I went to UW-Stevens Point to study soils. That's when I met Sam. After we graduated, we moved to Viroqua, then Eau Claire.
In addition to working on the farm, I am employed at Mayo Clinic.
My most recent project on the farm was picking a ton of garlic. I even got a few blisters from it!
